About the history of The Sierra Leone-China Friendship Biological Safety Laboratory
The Sierra Leone-China Friendship Biological Safety Laboratory, a fixed Biosafety Level 3(P3) laboratory in Sierra Leone, was established by the Chinese government and has been active in EBOV detection since 11 March 2015. The Ebola virus disease (EVD) outbreak that occurred in West Africa between 2014 and 2015 was the largest EDV epidemic since the identification of the Ebola virus (EBOV) in 1976. Shortly after EDV emerged in West Africa in 2014, the Chinese government offered to provide large-scale medical aid to the three most strongly affected countries. The aid included establishing a fixed Biosafety Level 3 (BSL-3) laboratory in Freetown, the capital city of Sierra Leone.

For a day (24 hours), it can extract over 6300 samples (excluding decontamination operation). With the automation nucleic acid extraction system, the workload and efficiency of the lab will be significantly improved.
