Five years ago, the International Papillomavirus Society (IPVS) announced that March 4th of each year would be designated as the International HPV Awareness Day (IHAD). It is an initiative which aims to increase public awareness of the virus to improve understanding of HPV and the importance of prevention, screening, diagnosis and treatment of papillomavirus-related diseases.

Human papillomavirus (HPV) is a common sexually transmitted infection virus that exists widely in nature and can be carried by human skin, digestive tract, and respiratory tract. In addition to the well-established etiology of cervical cancer, persistent HPV infection is the leading cause of cervical cancer in women. There is growing evidence that HPV also affects anal and genital tumors.
